COVID-19 case is first reported in Boston.

The disease is detected in a University of Massachusetts Boston student. Local cases accelerate after a Biogen Corporation conference at the Marriott Long Wharf Hotel on February 26 and 27th, which subsequently is seen as being responsible for some 300,000 cases worldwide. A man is his eighties becomes the first person in Boston to die of COVID-19 on March 21, 2020. More than 1,000 deaths occur in Boston by January 2021, and more than 700,000 in the U.S. (exceeding the number of flu deaths in 1918) and 19,000 in Massachusetts by October 2021.
